Day 5 of Navaratri is upon us, and today we celebrate Skandamata. Skandamata translates into Mother of Skanda. Skanda is also known as Kartikeya, Muruga, Saravana, Shanmuga, and so on. Her son was chosen, better yet, born to be the commander in chief in the war waged against the Asuras (demons). She is depicted to have four arms, two of them holding lotuses, one holding Muruga, and the other one bestowing blessings to all her devotees.
She resides in the fifth Chakra, the Visuddhi Chakra. This chakra is placed in the third eye area, and she is in charge of taking care of creativity and communications. By praying to her, you will attain absolute bliss in this mortal realm, immense love and attention, and desires fulfilled. Love, care, compassion and communication is of such importance, especially so in times like this.
