The Mother who calmed down Ugra Narasimha

Select Dynamic field

Lord Narasimha, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, descended on earth in Satya Yuga to get rid of Adharma in the form of the demon King Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu had obtained a boon to become all-powerful and undefeatable and was causing havoc and chaos in the world. Lord Narasimha is a half-lion half-human incarnation, full of ugra (rage) against the demon king and kills him by drinking his blood after tearing up his body.

But the act of drinking the demon's blood made Lord Narasimha lose his godly attributes and get imbibed with destructive Rakshatva attributes. Full of rage and unstoppable, Narasimha was in a destructive mode, and the world was threatened with destruction as he could not be pacified.

To calm Lord Narasimha down, Lord Shiva came down as Sarabeswara (also called Sharabha), a part-lion part-bird hybrid with two wings of Shakti in the form of Shulini Devi and Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi. Seeing this, Lord Narasimha created Ghandaberunda, a powerful two-headed bird, to fight Sarabeswara. Seeing that the fight between Sarabeswara and Ghandaberunda was terrorizing the world, Pratyangira Devi in Her ugra form was released from Sarabeswara from His third eye. The Goddess, who is all-powerful, managed to pacify Lord Narasimha so He could resume His Satvik form, and thus Dharma and Satya in the world were restored.
